@WEEVILFOOTBALL DROPS HOME GAME TO REDDIES

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team suffered a 41-3 loss to No. 19 Henderson State at home on Saturday.

The Weevils (1-6) held the 19th-ranked Reddies to just 14 points in the first half, and only trailed by 11 going into the locker room at the break, but HSU scored 27 unanswered in the second half to pull away.

The Reddies (6-1) got on the board first on an 80-yard touchdown run by Jaquan Cole at the 2:47 mark of the first quarter. HSU went up 14-0 on a three-yard scoring run by Ryan McDonald to cap an 11-play, 46-yard drive at the 9:31 mark of the second period.

UAM scored its only points of the game on a 20-yard field goal by junior kicker Jamie McGee, who moved to within eight field goals of the all-time record in school history. He now has 29 made field goals in his career and six this season.

Henderson's Houston Ray added a pair of field goals for the next two scores of the game, his second a 44-yarder that gave the Reddies a 20-3 lead with 12:59 remaining in the fourth quarter. That field goal sparked a 24-point scoring burst for HSU in the final 15 minutes, which included a 25-yard passing touchdown with 2:24 remaining and the Reddies up by 32.

UAM is on the road for its next two games, first against Ouachita next Saturday in Arkadelphia in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
