MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team concluded the 2015 season with the first-ever win over Harding in school history on Thursday night inside Steelman Field House.
The Lady Bisons were 22-0 over UAM prior to Thursday's match. The Blossoms (12-17, 3-13 Great American Conference) ended that losing streak by beating Harding in straight sets on Thursday. Final game scores were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-23.
UAM had to come from behind in all three sets to earn the sweep. Harding (15-15, 9-7 GAC) led 6-2 early in the first set and later surrendered the lead on a 7-0 run by the Blossoms that ended with a kill by junior Dianna Etienne at 18-12.
In the second set, the Lady Bisons again led 6-2 early and also held a 19-17 lead late before the Blossoms closed out the frame on an 8-2 run.
Harding led the majority of the third set and looked to be on its way to forcing a fourth set up 23-19. However, UAM won five of the final six rallies to seal the match victory, highlighted by a pair of kills from junior Carolina Gasparini and two service aces from senior Lani Kaiwi.
The Blossoms finished with 41 kills and 16 errors on 126 swings for a .198 percentage. Harding had 37 kills and 18 errors on 104 attacks for a .183 percentage.
