@UAMHOOPS WRAPS UP ROAD SWING WITH LOSS TO DELTA STATE

CLEVELAND, Mississippi — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team concluded a six-game road swing with a 76-63 non-conference loss to Delta State on Saturday.

The six road games included an exhibition game at Nicholls State, three-non conference games and two Great American Conference games. The Weevils (0-5) will be in search of their first win of the season this upcoming weekend at home against Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State in GAC action.

In the loss to Delta State (5-1), the Weevils battled with the Statesmen for the first six minutes, using a pair of three-pointers from senior Jamal Peterson and a layup from junior Jerron Washington to hold an 8-6 lead at the 16:48 mark of the opening half.

The Statesmen later used a 9-0 run over the course of four and a half minutes to take a double-digit lead midway through the first half.

UAM cut its deficit down to single digits once more in the first half and once again early in the second half, but the Statesmen used 54 percent field goal shooting to grow a lead as large as 20 points at the 8:33 mark of the second half.

The Weevils finished the game shooting 36 percent from the field (21-for-58), 50 percent on three-pointers (12-for-24) and 75 percent on foul shots (9-for-12). Senior Richard Benedyth led the Weevils and tied DSU's Devin Schmidt for the game-high in scoring with 19 points. Peterson finished with 15.

UAM plays its first home game of the regular season this upcoming Thursday, December 3 against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Steelman Field House.
