MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with a 105-71 exhibition victory over Champion Christian College on Tuesday night at home.
The Weevils had five scorers in double-digits, led by junior Vicktor Arnick's double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Arnick was 4-for-6 from the field and 9-for-11 at the free throw line.
Junior Brandon Scott followed with 16 points off the bench, 12 coming by way of three-pointers. Junior Jerron Washington and senior Jamal Peterson each scored 13 points, while senior Evan Sims chipped in with 10 points in 10 minutes off the bench.
Senior Andre Brown led UAM in rebounding with 16. The Weevils held a 65-23 edge in rebounding, including a 22-6 margin in offensive boards. Those 22 offensive rebounds led to 29 second chance points for the Weevils.
Overall as a team, the Weevils shot 49 percent from the field (37-for-75), 44 percent on three-pointers (11-for-25) and 69 percent on foul shots (20-for-29).
Three of Champion Christian's eight players reached double-digits in scoring, led by Cody Connor's game-high 22 points.
The Weevils continue exhibition play next Monday, November 9 at Nicholls State. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
