@UAMHOOPS FALLS TO NICHOLLS STATE IN EXHIBITION

THIBODAUX, Louisiana — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team lost to Nicholls State in an exhibition game on Monday night by a final score of 93-81.

The Weevils shot 43 percent from the field (24-for-56), but could not overcome Nicholls State's 63 percent shooting performance (30-for-48).

UAM fought back from an early 13-2 deficit in the first five minutes of the game with a 12-3 run to trim the deficit down to three points at the 11:15 mark of the opening half on a layup from junior Brandon Scott. The Colonels immediately responded with a 13-2 run to regain a sizeable lead with 7:19 remaining in the half.

The Colonels maintained at least an 11-point lead throughout the final seven minutes of the first half to hold a 45-31 lead at the break.

The Weevils rallied late in the second half to cut the deficit down to 10 points at 89-79 with 2:16 remaining following a three-pointer from senior Tyler Davis and a 13-3 run for UAM over the previous three minutes.

Four scorers reached double-digits for UAM, led by junior Vicktor Arnick with 17 points in 17 minutes. Senior Richard Benedyth scored 14, while senior Jamal Peterson and Scott each scored 12.

The Weevils are back in action this Friday and Saturday for the first countable contests of the year at a regional crossover challenge hosted by Southwest Baptist. UAM starts on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Lincoln, and finishes the weekend on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against host Southwest Baptist.
