MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was unable to over 52 percent shooting by Southeastern Oklahoma State, resulting in an 83-70 loss to the Savage Storm on Thursday night at home.
Southeastern (12-11, 8-7 Great American Conference) shot right at 50 percent from the field in the first half and improved four percentage points in the final 20 minutes to maintain its lead. The Savage Storm led for just under 38 minutes of the game, and maintained a double-digit advantage for the final 19 minutes.
In the first half, UAM (7-14, 3-13 GAC) got down by as much as 15 points, but rallied with a 13-6 run to close out the first half and cut the deficit down to eight points (44-36) at the break.
Junior Richard Benedyth led the Weevils with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior Korbin McClain chipped in with 13 points in 16 minutes off the bench. UAM finished the game shooting 36 percent from the field (26-for-73).
Southeastern's Taylor Smaller led all scorers with 23 points. Antonio Worthy added a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
The Weevils are off on Saturday and return to action next week on the road against Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State.
