BENTONVILLE, Arkansas – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team scored three runs in the first inning and added one more in the second for a 4-3 win over Minnesota-Duluth on Thursday at Bentonville High School's Tiger Athletic Complex.
The Blossoms (3-2) loaded the bases to start the bottom of the first inning and scored on an RBI single by sophomore McKenzie Rice and back-to-back bases loaded walks from junior Kelli Halder and senior Kayley Willingham.
Junior Holly Wilmarth led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun to left center for UAM's final run of the game.
The Lady Bulldogs (0-1) took advantage of a pair of UAM fielding errors to plate their first two runs of the game, one in each of the third and fourth innings.
UMD finalized the scoring in the top of the sixth on a leadoff homerun from Heather Woyak.
Junior Katherine Batey (2-1) earned the win in complete-game fashion, giving up three runs (two earned) off 11 hits with four strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of work.
The second half of Thursday's double-header against UMD was cancelled due to weather. The Blossoms are back in action on Friday in Bentonville against Nebraska Kearney at 11 a.m. and later against Upper Iowa at 1 p.m.
