MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team split a pair of Great American Conference home games against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, falling 4-2 in the first game before picking up a 4-1 win in the series finale.

The Weevils (5-6, 2-4 GAC) salvaged one win in the three-game set on the arm of senior pitcher Austin Braddock (3-0), who threw a complete-game two-hitter in the series finale, giving up just one run with five strikeouts and three walks in seven full innings.

UAM was limited to just five hits in Saturday's game, but was able to take advantage of a bunt single, three hit batters and one walk to push across the go ahead runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Weevils started the scoring in the second on a sacrifice fly from redshirt freshman Brian Ray. NWOSU (8-8, 3-6 GAC) tied it up in the top of the fourth with an RBI double from Joshua Caruso.

After adding the go ahead runs in the fourth, UAM cushioned its lead in the fifth with one run scoring on a ground ball double play.

In the first game, UAM went hitless through the first four innings before three hits and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a scoreless tie. The big blow in the inning was a two-run single from junior Evan Comeau.

However, the Rangers held UAM scoreless throughout the rest of the game, despite 12 of UAM's final 20 batters reaching base. The Weevils left a total of 13 runners on base in the loss.

The Rangers rallied from behind with an unearned run in the sixth, two runs off two hits in the seventh and one final run in the top of the ninth.

UAM is back in action next weekend on the road against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
