MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team wrapped up the 2014-15 regular season with a 77-60 to Great American Conference Co-Champion Arkansas Tech on Saturday at home inside Steelman Field House.
The Blossoms (13-12, 11-9 GAC) have earned the No. 5 seed in next week's GAC Championship Tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. UAM scheduled to open up against No. 4 seed East Central on Thursday, March 5 at 8 p.m. at the Bruin Field House.
Arkansas Tech (21-5, 16-4 GAC) opened Saturday's game with a three-pointer and never trailed for the remainder of the game. The Blossoms ralied back from a quick 5-0 deficit to force a 7-all tie on a made jumper from sophomore Tori Nichols at the 17:05 mark.
UAM held Tech to a lead under five points for the next five minutes before the Golden Suns posted a 14-6 run through the 7:11 mark to take a double-digit lead of 30-20. UAM closed the first half on a 6-0 run to cut its deficit to five at the break (33-28).
In the second half, Tech outscored UAM 44-32 and maintained a double-digit lead over the Blossoms for the final 14 minutes of regulation.
The Blossoms finished at 45 percent from the field (24-for-45) and were held to just one made three-pointer on five attempts. Junior Nelsha Peterson led UAM with 15 points, followed by junior Nikki Mullen and Nichols at 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Golden Suns finished at 42 percent overall (32-for-65). Tech held a 38-21 advantage over UAM in rebounds, including a 17-3 edge on the offensive glass. Fatima Adams led all players with 18 points and eight rebounds.
