MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team suffered a pair of shutout losses in its first two home games of the season, falling to East Central on Saturday by scores of 8-0 and 10-0.
The Tigers (15-10, 12-5 Great American Conference) got the wins by scoring the majority of their runs in the late innings. ECU opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first inning of game one, but grabbed a big lead with six runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to finalize the scoring.
In the second game, the Tigers put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for the run-rule win.
The Blossoms (16-9, 8-6 GAC) were held scoreless on just three hits in the first game and four hits in the second game.
Junior Kali Piha went 2-for-3 in the first game, while senior Lacy Blanchard led the Blossoms in the second game by getting singles in her only two at bats of the contest.
The two teams are set to close out the four-game set with another double-header on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon at Blossoms Field.
