CLEVELAND, Mississippi – This University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team and Delta State University traded a pair of lop-sided victories on Thursday. The Blossoms won the first game 14-7 before falling in the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.
In the first game, UAM (22-19) scored at least one run in all but one inning. The Blossoms kept its current power streak going by tying a season-high with five homeruns in the win.
Junior Holly Wilmarth led the way with a 4-for-5 outing with a two-run homerun and a solo homerun. It was her first multi-homerun game of the season and ups her total to a team-high 13 round-trippers for the year.
UAM also got homeruns out senior Lacy Blanchard, senior Sydney Tipton and sophomore Allison Stipes. Tipton hit a three-run homerun in the fourth inning and picked up her fourth RBI of the game on a single in her next at bat.
Wilmarth, Blanchard and Tipton were joined by junior Kali Piha and freshman Aubree Head to all have at least two hits in the win.
In the second half of the double-header, the Blossoms were limited to just one run off four hits. Wilmarth went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the top of the third to open the game's scoring.
The Lady Statesmen (22-18) began their late surge with two runs in the fourth inning, six in the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game early.
The Blossoms' weekend series against Pittsburg State has been cancelled. Next up for UAM now is a non-conference double-header at home on Tuesday, April 21 against Grambling State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Blossoms Field.
