ALVA, Oklahoma – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team wrapped up the 2015 regular season on Sunday with a pair of Great American Conference road losses to Northwestern Oklahoma State, falling 8-7 in the first game and 9-1 in the second game.
The Rangers (23-26, 17-19 GAC) scored six runs off seven hits in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game to earn the win. UAM had built a five-run lead with four runs in the top of the fourth and three more in the sixth.
Sophomore McKenzie Rice led the charge in the four-run fourth with a three-run homerun to center field. The Blossoms (24-23, 12-18 GAC) scored their first run of the game earlier in the inning off a NWOSU error.
UAM's three-run sixth inning featured a two-run homerun by junior Holly Wilmarth and an RBI single from senior Lacy Blanchard.
The Blossoms posted 12 hits in the loss, led by two hits each from Wilmarth, Rice, senior Sydney Tipton and sophomore Korie Parker.
In the series finale, UAM took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Parker in the top of the first inning, but the Rangers held UAM scoreless over the next four innings on three hits.
In her first start of the season, junior Elizabeth Delafield faced only one batter over the minimum through the first three innings before the Rangers erupted for four runs off three hits in the fourth inning and five runs off seven hits in the fifth inning to complete the four-game series sweep.
The Blossoms will enter the GAC Championship Tournament as the No. 7 seed and face the No. 2 seed on Thursday, April 30 at noon. For more information about the tournament visit
