@UAMSOFTBALL ELIMINATED FROM GAC TOURNAMENT

BENTONVILLE, Arkansas – The 2015 season came to an end for the University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team on Thursday night with a 6-4 loss to Southern Nazarene in an elimination game of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament.

The Blossoms, the No. 7 seeded team in the tournament, wrap up the season with a 24-25 overall record. Southern Nazarene, the No. 6 seed, improves to 20-29 and will move on to play the loser of the Arkansas Tech-Henderson State winner's bracket game.

Southern Nazarene opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second, and added two more runs in each of the third and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead headed to the sixth frame.

UAM senior Sydney Tipton ended the shutout with a solo homerun to lead off the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore McKenzie Rice added another run for the Blossoms with a two-out RBI double down the left field line later in the inning.

Tipton started another rally for the Blossoms in the seventh, this time with a solo homerun with two outs to cut UAM's deficit in half at 6-3. Sophomore Allison Stipes finalized the scoring with an RBI single two batters later.

UAM outhit SNU in the loss 14-11, but could not overcome a total of 11 runners left on base. Tipton led UAM with three hits, while sophomore Korie Parker and junior Holly Wilmarth posted two hits each.

SNU's Jessica Thompson went 3-for-3 with four RBI. Two other Crimson Storm batters totaled two hits in the contest.
