@UAMVOLLEYBALL SWEEPS ALCORN STATE TRI-MATCH

LORMAN, Mississippi — The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team recorded a pair of three-set victories on Friday at a tri-match hosted by Alcorn State.

The Blossoms (5-3) started the day with a victory in straight sets over Stillman College by final scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-16. Later, UAM took down host Alcorn State in three sets by final scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-22.

In the win over Stillman, senior Sydni Schulz, junior Kya Standford and sophomore Ja'Kyra Austin tied for the team high with six kills each. Junior Kedra Johnson followed with five kills. Senior Kaila Kikugawa posted a double-double of 29 assists and 12 digs. Junior Carolina Gasparini led the back row with 13 digs.

In the win over Alcorn, Schulz led the Blossoms with the second match of at least 20 digs in her UAM career. She had 21 digs, while also adding six kills to her final totals. Gasparini led the team in the kills category with eight, while Johnson turned in six. Standford had five kills and three blocks in the win.

The Blossoms are back in action on Tuesday for their first home match of the 2015 season and the first-ever event to be played on UAM's newly-designed court inside Steelman Field House. First serve against Henderson State on Tuesday is set for 6 p.m. Admission is free.
