@WEEVILFOOTBALL DROPS ROAD GAME TO HENDERSON STATE

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team was taken down by Great American Conference opponent #15 Henderson State University on the road Saturday afternoon.

Final score in this match-up was 45-17 in favor of the Reddies.

The Weevils (2-5, 2-5 GAC) struggled offensively in the opening half of the contest as despite posting similar statistics to the hosting #15 Reddies of Henderson State (6-1, 6-1 GAC), UAM could not translate that yardage into points. HSU led Arkansas-Monticello at the half 28-10, but UAM closed the gap in the third quarter after a Cole Sears one yard rushing touchdown. Henderson State continued to surge ahead with its offensive attack as the second half went on and ultimately sealed the game at 45-17 for the win.

Final team statistics on the night saw UAM with 410 total yards compared to the 513 total of HSU. Arkansas-Monticello led in time of possession over the Reddies at 39:02 compared to 20:58, and the Weevils committed two interceptions also, and HSU recorded one fumble lost in the contest.

"Our players played hard," head coach Hud Jackson said after the game. "Henderson is a great team and we had our chances during this one. Going to keep working hard and we had several players really step up and play well for us today. Our focus is now on OBU (Oucahita)."

Leading Arkansas-Monticello in the match-up in the passing game was sophomore Cole Sears who finished the contest going 31-47 for 264 yards through the air, and one passing touchdown. Sears added 17 yards on the ground to his stat-line, along with one rushing touchdown.

Junior Austin Harris led the UAM receiving core on the day with eight catches for 78 total yards. Junior Jalen Tolliver added two catches of his own for 14 yards, along with one receiving touchdown to continue his streak of at least one touchdown reception in the past seven games.

The Weevil rushing game was led by freshman Deountario Brown with 15 total carries for 53 yards. Brown also hauled in seven catches for 43 yards a well.

Defensively UAM was led by senior Andre Adams with eight total tackles in the game, two passes broken up and one quarterback hurry. Ja'lon Watts recorded his sacks total to 2.5 this season and tallied five total tackles.

The Weevils will hit the field next as they host the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist in a GAC match-up on October 22 with kick-off scheduled for 3 p.m. at WCL Cotton Boll Stadium, and that Saturday will also be homecoming weekend for the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
