@WEEVILFOOTBALL CONTINUES WINNING WAYS AGAINST ECU

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team defeated the Tigers of East Central Saturday afternoon in a Great American Conference match-up at home inside Cotton Boll Stadium.

Final score in this game was 42-21 in favor of Arkansas-Monticello.

The Weevils (4-5, 4-5 GAC) battled against East Central (1-8, 1-8 GAC) in what turned out to be an offense heavy contest down the stretch of the match-up. UAM struck first through the air during its first drive of the game to give the home team the early 7-0 advantage. ECU countered with a long pass play of its own to even the game up at 7-7 midway through the opening quarter. After a Cole Sears to Trevon Smith touchdown through the air late in the first quarter, Arkansas-Monticello never trailed for the remainder of the contest as the Weevil defense forced six total turnovers, five of which were interceptions.

"So proud of this team," head coach Hud Jackson said after the game. "I thought we did some great things on offense and defense, but was a little disappointed with cover units but we will work on that. Players played with passion and a purpose and it's nice to get wins, and we are going to enjoy it. It's time to focus on SOSU. Eat 'em up!

Junior Jalen Tolliver continued his 10-game touchdown streak with another touchdown reception and totaled 135 yards in the contest on nine catches. The Arkansas-Monticello ground game was led by freshman Deountario Brown with 23 total carries for 154 yards, and one touchdown.

Defensively the Weevils forced five total interceptions by five different UAM defenders as Christian Jefferson, Stacey Warren, Demorris Bedford, Lloyd Robinson, and Wesley Williams each recorded one throughout this game.

Cole Sears guided the offensive attack through the air as well totaling 343 passing yards, 25 total completions, and three passing touchdowns.

UAM will take to the field next on Saturday, November 5 as the Weevils travel to Durant, Oklahoma to face Southeastern Oklahoma State in a GAC match-up with kick-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
