HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team fell to Great American Conference opponent and number two seed Ouachita Baptist Thursday afternoon in a GAC Championship Tournament quarterfinals match-up.
Final game scores from the match were 24-26, 25-13, 29-27, 22-25 and 15-13 in favor of the Tigers.
The Blossoms (12-17) took set one over Ouachita Baptist (23-6) after jumping out to a hot start, leading the Tigers 7-2 early in the first set. OBU fought back to even the match up late in the set but consecutive kills by the Blossoms from Maggie Pyles and Kya Standford sealed the set win for UAM. Ouachita claimed the following two sets but not without a battle in set number four as the set extended into a final score of 29-27 in the Tigers favor.
Set number four continued to be close throughout as the Blossoms finally found separation late in the set, creating a 5-2 run to claim the set at 25-22. The final fifth set saw the Tigers go on a 7-1 run to ultimately win the match, 3-2.
Junior Shay Mitchell led the Blossoms offensive attack on the day with a career-high and match-high 28 kills and a hitting percentage of .347 as well. Senior Kya Standford added a career-high 15 kills to the UAM offensive unit and tallied a career-high in total blocks in the match with 10.
Junior Macy Mitchell led UAM on the defensive side of the ball with a career-high and match-high 40 total digs and tied the UAM match record for total digs in a five-set match (40). Freshman Kendall Vondra posted a career-high in total assists during this match-up with 63 overall.
Carolina Gasparini added another double-double to her season total, with 14 kills and 18 digs in the contest as well.
This concludes UAM Volleyball's 2016 season as the Blossoms finish the year with a 12-17 record and an 8-8 overall record in the Great American Conference.
