MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team took down the Cougars of Carver College in non-conference action Saturday evening with an 80-66 victory inside Steelman Field House to extend the Weevils winning streak out to eight games.
Arkansas-Monticello (8-0, 4-0 GAC) held a 40-31 point lead over the visiting Cougars (1-12) after the first half of play in this match-up, but the Weevils really began to pull away in the second half of this competition. UAM compiled an 18-11 run over eight minutes late in the second half of play to extend its lead out to a comfortable distance and ultimately sealed the match-up off with the 80-66 victory, the eighth straight for the Weevils.
Leading the Weevil offensive attack during the contest was junior Derylton Hill with 21 total points and also led UAM in total rebounding with a career-high 14 boards.
Junior Karim Mawuenyega and senior Vicktor Arnick each recorded 15 points on the night and junior Tyrin Jones posted a double digit score line in points with 10 overall as well. Junior Cobe Goosby went on to lead the Weevils in total assists with six and added five rebounds and four points to his stat-line.
UAM finished the contest shooting 44 percent from the field (27-for-62), 22 percent from beyond the arc (4-for-18) and 88 percent on free throws (22-for-25). Carver ended the match-up at 45 percent from the field (25-for-56), 31 percent on threes (5-for-16) and 69 percent on foul shots (11-for-16).
The Weevils will be back on the court next on Thursday, January 5, 2017 as the UAM will host Great American Conference opponent Southern Nazarene with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
