@UAMHOOPS DROPS GAC ROAD GAME TO REDDIES

ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — Henderson State rallied to outscore the University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team 21-10 in the final 10 minutes to beat the Weevils by a final score of 60-56 on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.
 
The Weevils (7-15, 5-11 Great American Conference) led by as much as seven points at the 10:13 mark of the second period follow a three-pointer from senior Andre Brown and a layup by junior Vicktor Arnick. Following a HSU timeout, the Reddies (5-16, 4-12 GAC) responded with a 12-0 run to get on top 51-46 with 4:40 remaining.

UAM rallied to take a one-point lead with 1:01 remaining when Arnick converted on a three-point play after being fouled on a made shot. However, the Reddies answered on the ensuing possession on a layup from Aaron Cooper to regain the lead. HSU held UAM to only one more point in the final minute, while going 4-for-4 at the free throw line to seal the win.

In the first half, UAM led by as much as four points on a jumper from senior Jamal Peterson at the 3:24 mark to cap an 8-0 run over the previous five minutes.

There were a total of 10 lead changes and seven tie scores in Saturday's contest.

UAM finished the game shooting 32 percent from the field (18-for-56), 12 percent on three-pointers (3-for-24) and 74 percent on foul shots (17-for-23). HSU ended at 38 percent overall (22-for-58), 23 percent on treys (7-for-30) and 64 percent at the free throw line (9-for-14).

Arnick and senior Jerron Washington led all scorers with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Arnick added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Brown posted a game-high 13 rebounds, his 12th game of the year with at least 10.

Kevin Kozan led the Reddies with 14 points.
 
The Weevils are back in action this Monday on the road against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Magnolia.
