MONTICELLO — The 20th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped by Arkansas Tech on Tuesday at Weevils Field by a final score of 4-3.
UAM (30-12) looked to be in control early after sending eight to the plate in the first inning and getting an RBI double from senior Corey Wood to hold an early lead. However, the Weevils left the bases loaded that inning, and ended up leaving a total of 10 runners on base in the loss.
Senior Kevin Fitzpatrick gave UAM a 3-0 lead in the second on an RBI double down the left field line, but that turned out to be the final run Tech pitchers allowed.
Tech (20-27) scored all of its runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking advantage of three hits and four walks.
UAM finished with nine hits, led by multi-hit performances from senior Evan Comeau, Fitzpatrick and sophomore Brian Ray.
The Weevils are back in action at home this weekend against Southern Arkansas with a chance of winning the Great American Conference regular season championship. More information about that series will be released on Thursday.
