SEARCY, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team earned a Great American Conference series victory with a pair of wins over Harding on Saturday by final scores of 8-0 and 7-5.
In the first game, the Blossoms (26-20, 20-14 GAC) took advantage of four Harding errors to score three unearned runs, but a three-run home run from senior Holly Wilmarth in the sixth inning was the feature hit in the victory.
Wilmarth's three-run home run in the sixth gave UAM enough of a margin to win by the NCAA's eight-run mercy rule. It was her 12th round-tripper of the season.
In the first game win, junior Korie Parker picked up where she left off from Friday with two hits, both producing runs, including an RBI double in the top of the first to open the scoring. Senior Kali Piha went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
Junior Kendra Coleman (12-9) earned her fourth shutout of the season by allowing no runs off three with five strikeouts and three walks in her complete-game victory.
In the second half of the double-header, the Blossoms pounded out 10 hits, including a pair of two-run home runs.
The scoring started in the first on an RBI single from Piha, who hit the first two-run home run in the top of the third inning to put UAM 3-0. The second two-run home run came in the top of the fifth, this time off the bat of junior McKenzie Rice. The Blossoms scored two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single from freshman Kali Bolter and a sac fly from Wilmarth.
Harding (26-20, 18-16 GAC) scored one in the second, two in the fourth and two in the seventh.
Freshman Paisley Pratt (3-3) earned the win in relief, giving up two runs off three hits in the final four innings.
The Blossoms are back on the road this upcoming Tuesday, April 12 in the second GAC rivalry double-header against Southern Arkansas. The Blossoms and Lady Muleriders split the first half of the series on March 29 in Monticello. First pitch of this Tuesday's double-header is set for 2 p.m. in Magnolia.
