MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team fell against Ouachita Baptist Tuesday evening in its 2016 Great American Conference opener in a four-set loss at home.

Final game scores from the match were 26-24, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-16. 

Arkansas-Monticello (2-8, 0-1 GAC) played from behind during the majority of set number one although UAM fought back to tie the score up late, until two straight kills by the Tigers saw Ouachita (7-2, 1-0 GAC) claim the opening set victory. This match was close throughout its entirety due to each squad's strong defensive effort with OBU leading the match-up in total blocks with nine compared to UAM's eight. 

As a team, the Blossoms combined for 53 kills and 23 errors on 164 swings for a .183 hitting percentage, while Ouachita finished with 61 kills and 21 errors on 169 attacks for a .237 percentage.

Senior Kya Standford led the offense on the night with 13 total kills on 35 swings and contributed a team-high two solo blocks and three block-assists. Junior Shay Mitchell added 11 kills of her own, along with 14 digs and one solo block.  

Freshman Kendall Vondra led the Blossoms in assists as she totaled 44 in the match along with adding five kills and a team-high 16 digs to her stat line. Junior Macy Mitchell tallied a team-high 16 digs as well during the contest and three assists. 

The Blossoms will be back on the court next on Thursday, September 15 as they head to Fort Smith, Arkansas to square off against non-conference opponent Arkansas-Fort Smith with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
