@UAMVOLLEYBALL BEATS LYON COLLEGE FOR FIRST WIN

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team secured its first victory of the 2016 season on Wednesday night with a three-set victory over non-conference opponent Lyon College in the Blossoms home opener. 

Final game scores from the match were 25-13, 25-15, and 25-19. 

The Blossoms (1-4, 0-0 GAC) dominated the opening two sets of the match as UAM led by eight or more points at various periods during the opening two sets. UAM took advantage of its best hitting performance in a contest this year to put away the Scots with a .310 percentage.  

Arkansas-Monticello used 14 total service aces and 23 overall errors by Lyon College (5-1, 0-0 AMC) in the match to claim the win on their home court. 

As a team, UAM combined for 36 kills and 10 errors on 84 swings for a .310 hitting percentage, while Lyon finished with 28 kills and 14 errors on 86 attacks for a .163 percentage.

Senior Carolina Gasparini led the offensive unit with nine overall kills on 23 swings and added a game-high seven service aces to her stat-line. Senior Kya Stanford added six kills of her own along with a game-high four total blocks on the defensive side of the net. 

Juniors Aubrey Harrison and Shay Mitchell and freshman Maggie Pyles each contributed six kills each to the UAM offensive front. Defensively junior Macy Mitchell and freshman Elizabeth Harshaw picked up seven digs a piece. 

Freshman setter Kendall Vondra led the Blossoms once again in assists as she totaled 28 in the match. 

UAM is back in action this coming weekend as they travel to Stephenville, Texas to take part in the Tarleton Invitational where they will have four matches over two days. The first will be against A&M-Commerce on Friday, September 9, with first serve set for 9 a.m.
