@UAMWBB FALLS IN OVERTIME TO RIVAL SAU

Magnolia, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team fell against Great American Conference rival Southern Arkansas Monday evening in overtime on the road by a final score of 80-78.

Arkansas-Monticello (6-7, 3-6 GAC) despite leading the hosting Muleriders of Southern Arkansas (4-9, 2-7 GAC) at the half, 32-29, SAU quickly took the lead within the first minutes of the second half. Each team battled each other throughout the remainder of the second half with seven total ties and nine lead chances overall in this match-up. A late three-pointer from Brittnee Broadway gave UAM a three point lead with just 00:25 second left in the game, but three straight free throws made from the Muleriders sent this contest into overtime. The overtime period was all SAU unfortunately as Southern Arkansas never trailed in overtime and went on to seal the victory against UAM, 80-78.

Leading the Blossom offensive attack in the game was sophomore Ayesha Wahid with 23 total points, on 10-for-16 shooting from the field. Wahid added four rebounds, and three steals to her stat line on the night as well. 

Several other Blossoms found themselves in double digit scoring as Taylor Collins finished with 17, Treasure Evans added 12, and Nelsha Peterson recorded 11 points overall. Peterson led the team in total rebounds with six in the match-up and Broadway went on to lead UAM in total assists with six. 

Final team statistics in the game for Arkansas-Monticello included shooting 49 percent from the field (28-for-57), 50 percent beyond the arc (8-for-16) and 50 percent on foul shots (14-for-28). The Muleriders ended the match-up at 48 percent from the field (28-for-59), 56 percent on three-pointers (9-for-16) and 65 percent from the free throw line (15-for-23).

UAM will face GAC opponent Ouachita Baptist next on the road in Arkadelphia, Arkansas this Thursday, January 19 with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
