HSU EDGES @WEEVILFOOTBALL ON SENIOR DAY

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team was taken down on senior day by the Reddies of Henderson State Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 28-21.

  • The Weevils drop to 5-5 (5-5 GAC) overall this year.
  • The Reddies improve to 6-4 (6-4 GAC) in 2017.

  • The opening quarter of play ended in a 0-0 tie, as both teams fought for any advantage early in this GAC match-up. 
  • UAM struggled to generate any momentum on the offensive side of the ball, and Henderson State failed to create any progressive offense as neither team found a way into the red-zone during this quarter.

  • HSU scored the game's first points early in the second period on a short rushing touchdown which gave the visiting squad a 7-0 lead.
  • Arkansas-Monticello fired back however, and was able to tie up the ballgame with just eight seconds remaining in the quarter after Cole Sears found Jalen Tolliver for the 1 yard score.

  • UAM struck again late in the third quarter as Sears would connect with Tolliver yet again to take the 14-7 lead over the Reddies.
  • Henderson State tied up the contest with just seconds left in the period on a short yardage pass to see the game tied at 14-14 heading to the final quarter of play.

  • Deountario Brown provided a spark to the UAM offense with a 73 yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter which gave the Weevils back the advantage over HSU at 21-14.
  • The Reddies countered midway through the fourth with an interception that was returned for a touchdown, to tie up the game with 9:59 left in the match-up
  • Henderson State sealed off the game with a passing touchdown with just over five minutes in regulation to defeat the Weevils 28-21.

  • Jalen Tolliver:  6 receptions, 94 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns

  • Obi Nwachukwu:  3 tackles, 1 interception, 2 passes broken up

  • Arkansas-Monticello returns to action next Saturday, November 11 as the Weevils will face rival Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas in what will be the final regular season game of the 2017 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
