SEARCY, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was defeated on the road by Harding University in a Great American Conference match-up by a final score of 57-43.
The Blossoms (10-11, 7-10 GAC) held a 24-21 lead over the Bisons of Harding (19-3, 16-1 GAC) at the half in this contest after solid defensive play saw HU only shot 33 percent from the field. The third quarter however was a different story as the Bisons outscored UAM 20-0 in the period to take a 41-24 lead. Despite a close fourth quarter, Harding was able to seal the victory over Arkansas-Monticello, 57-43.
Offensively UAM was led by junior Treasure Evans with 11 points on 5-for-13 shooting from the floor. Evans went on to grab five rebounds, and record one steal in the game as well.
Senior Nelsha Peterson added eight total points on the evening, along with five rebounds. Three other Blossoms recorded five boards in this contest as well which included Taylor Collins, Ayesha Wahid, and Mackenzie Johnson.
Final team statistics for Arkansas-Monticello included shooting 29 percent (15-for-51) from the floor, 11 percent (1-for-9) on three-pointers, and 67 percent (12-for-18) on free throws. HU finished the game shooting 44 percent (24-for-54) overall, 22 percent on three's (7-for-15), and 47 percent (10-for-11) from the free throw line.
Arkansas-Monticello will return to the court next on Monday, February 13 as the Blossoms will host GAC rival Southern Arkansas University with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
