@UAMHOOPS ECLIPSES 20-WIN MARK WITH VICTORY OVER OUACHITA

MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was took down Great American Conference opponent Ouachita Baptist inside Steelman Field House on senior day, by a final score of 74-69.

This was the 20th victory for the Weevils this season, which makes Arkansas-Monticello just the fifth team in men's basketball of NCAA - Division II in the last eight years to win 20 games after losing 20 games the previous year. 

#16 Arkansas-Monticello (20-4, 16-4 GAC) found itself down at the half against the Tigers of Ouachita, 36-29. Despite trailing for over 25:00 minutes in this match-up, the Weevils continued to battle back and chip away at the Ouachita lead in the second half. UAM went on a 25-9 run during an 11:00 minute stretch in the second half of play, fueling the Weevils to take the lead and close the game out on free throws to seal the victory.

The Weevils were lead on offense by junior Derylton Hill who totaled 17 overall points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Hill recorded seven rebounds, two assists and one steal in the match-up as well.

Three other Weevils finished the day in double-digit scoring, including Cobe Goosby at 16 points, Karim Mawuenyega with 14, and senior Vicktor Arnick added 10 points. Mawuenyega also recorded his first double-double in a Weevil uniform, leading the game with 10 total rebounds. 

Final team statistics in the contest for the Arkansas-Monticello included 44 percent shooting from the floor (26-for-59), 33 percent on three's (7-for-21), and 65 percent on free throws (15-for-23). The Tigers finished the day shooting 50 percent (28-for-56) from the field, 41 percent beyond the arc (7-for-17), and 60 percent from the free throw line (6-for-10).

UAM will return to the court next on Thursday, February 23 as the Weevils will face GAC foe Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Oklahoma with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
