ADA, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team fell in the final game of its Great American Conference series against East Central Sunday by a final score of 14-8.
The Weevils (3-7, 1-2 GAC) jumped onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning after a Sean Wagner two-run home-run down the left field line. The Tigers of East Central (2-8, 2-1 GAC) quickly countered with five unanswered runs of its own to hold a 5-2 lead through four innings.
Arkansas-Monticello scored one run in the top of the fifth, but ECU tallied six runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead UAM 11-3. Geoffery King and Brady Weiss each provided one RBI each in the top of the top of the sixth to cut into the Tigers' lead.
UAM, after allowing three additional runs in the seventh, began to generate a comeback in the top of the eighth after Nick Piraino doubled to right field putting the East Central lead at 14-8. The Weevils unfortunately could not create any more runs in the final inning as the Tigers took the game at 14-8, and the overall series at 2-1.
Arkansas-Monticello will hit the field next on Wednesday, February 22, as the Weevils will take on non-conference opponent Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss. with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
