MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team took down Great American Conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon by a final score of 7-1 at Weevils Field.
UAM (4-8, 2-2 GAC) had its offense clicking from the start against the Savage Storm (1-9, 0-4 GAC) as the Weevils put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning behind an Andres Rios double down the left field line, and a Sean Wagner RBI single.
Arkansas-Monticello continued its scoring ways in the fifth with a Brian Ray single to right that brought home a run, and a Wagner sacrifice fly saw an additional run cross the plate.
The Weevils capped off its scoring in the bottom of the sixth as Ray tripled to deep center field which brought home two more runs, and went on to be enough to seal the game at 7-1 by the final out.
Notable statistics in the match-up for UAM included a three hit, three RBI day for the junior Brian Ray who also recorded one run scored. Junior Gentry Ford also recorded a triple in this contest, and Nick Piraino swiped his third base of the season as well.
Senior pitcher Grant Black earned his first victory of 2017 after a complete game performance against SOSU, throwing 9.0 total innings, striking out six batters and only allowed one run on five hits.
UAM will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 25, to close out the GAC series against the Savage Storm at Weevils Field in a doubleheader with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12 p.m.
