@WEEVILSBASEBALL SWEPT IN DOUBLEHEADER BY OBU

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was swept in a Great American Conference doubleheader Monday afternoon by Oklahoma Baptist on the road by final scores of 6-5, and 7-6.

The Weevils (11-10, 8-4 GAC) allowed two first inning runs to the Bison of OBU (11-9, 6-6 GAC) in game one of two, but UAM would quickly find an answer back later in the third inning. Arkansas-Monticello scored three runs in the inning, those of which included a Sean Wagner double to right field which saw Brian Ray cross the plate.

A Brady Weiss two-run single in the seventh extended the UAM lead out to 5-2, but the Weevils surrendered two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Oklahoma Baptist went on to record two additional runs in the eighth and that was enough to seal the victory in the first match-up at 6-5.

Junior Braden Chambers started on the hill for UAM, throwing 6.2 innings, allowing three earned runs, and struck out six total batters.

The second contest of the day saw Arkansas-Monticello on the board first with a Wagner RBI double to right field to give UAM the early advantage. Nick Piraino continued the scoring in the following inning with a RBI double of his own, and the Weevils tacked on three total runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.

Alex Smith capped of the UAM scoring in the top of the fifth with a two-run single to left, stretching the visiting lead out to 6-0 over OBU. The Bison however went on to score six unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to force the game into extra innings. OBU took the game at 7-6, on a walk-off home-run, and claimed the series at 2-1 as well.

Kris Brown got the start in the game for UAM, and went 4.0 total innings, recording five strikeouts, one hit and three walks.

Arkansas-Monticello will hit the field once again this Wednesday, March 15, as the Weevils will host Mississippi College in a non-conference match-up at Weevils Field with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
