MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team swept the day against Great American Conference foe Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon at home by final scores of 4-1, and 11-0.
UAM (10-8, 7-2 GAC) found itself in a tight battle against Southern Nazarene (1-16, 1-8 GAC) in the first game of the day as Arkansas-Monticello generated two early runs throughout the first two innings after a RBI fielders choice by Brady Weiss, and a double down the left field line by Nick Piraino.
Brian Ray capped off the Weevils scoring with a RBI single to right which gave UAM the 4-0 advantage. Landon McFadden (S, 1) came on for the two inning save appearance and shut down the Crimson Storm for the Weevil victory at 4-1.
Game number two for Arkansas-Monticello showcased the Weevils offensive power and a strong outing on the mound from Kris Brown who threw a complete game of 7.0 innings, only allowed one hit in the top of the seventh inning, and recorded six strikeouts in the match-up.
Piraino finished with a three hit day going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Andres Rios, Sean Wagner, Brady Weiss, and Guy Halbert each provided two hit days in the game with Halbert totaling four RBIs overall, and one home-run.
Arkansas-Monticello will return to action next on Tuesday, March 7 in a non-conference match-up against Mississippi College at home with first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Weevils Field.
