@UAMHOOPS TOPS TECH, ADVANCES TO GAC CHAMPIONSHIP

BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team defeated number three seed Arkansas Tech in the semifinal game of the Great American Conference Tournament, by a final score of 88-79.

Arkansas-Monticello (23-5, 17-5 GAC) fought back in this match-up against the Wonder Boys of ATU (21-7, 16-6 GAC) after being down 41-34 at the half against Tech. UAM generated a 23-12 run throughout the middle of second half after knocking down key three-pointers which ultimately sealed the game in favor of the Weevils at 88-79. 

The Weevils were led offensively by Karim Mawuenyega with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Mawuenyega added five rebounds, four assists and one steal to his overall stat-line. 

Cobe Goosby provided 22 points along with seven rebounds, and five assists in the contest. Vicktor Arnick secured his second double-double of the season after putting up 17 points and 11 rebounds against ATU. 

Derylton Hill and Tyrin Jones each added 10 points a piece, and Hill led UAM in total steals with three as well. 

Final team stats in the game for UAM included 45 percent shooting from the floor (29-for-64), 42 percent beyond the arc (11-for-26), and 76 percent on foul shots (19-for-25). ATU finished the night shooting 47 percent (30-for-64) overall, 32 percent on three-pointers (8-for-25), and 55 percent from the free throw line (11-for-20).

The Weevils will return to action in the GAC Championship Tournament in the championship game as UAM will face East Central this Sunday, March 5 inside Bruin Fieldhouse with tip-off set for 3:30 p.m.
