@WEEVILSBASEBALL TAKES SERIES FROM REDDIES

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team defeated Henderson State twice Saturday afternoon to take the series by final scores of 13-3, and 4-2.

Game one between UAM (19-12, 15-6 GAC) and HSU (19-12, 13-8 GAC) saw the Weevils on the board first in the opening inning after a Sean Wagner RBI single down the left field line.

Arkansas-Monticello continued its scoring ways in the second inning with RBI hits from Brian Ray, Andres Rios and Wagner to extend the lead out to 7-0.

UAM tacked on two additional runs in the fourth, and added three more runs in the fifth inning with two bases loaded walks and a Brady Weiss double to put the Weevil lead at 12-2. Arkansas-Monticello capped off the game with a Weiss RBI single to right to take the game 13-3 in seven innings.

Braden Chambers (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season after throwing 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs, and struck out eight.

The second match-up of the day was a close battle between the two programs, as UAM jumped onto the scoreboard first once again in the second inning after RBI singles from both Alex Smith, and Lathan McFadden.

Henderson State mounted a comeback to tie the game up in the fifth, and eventually sent the game into extra innings. Weiss finally broke the tie in the top of the tenth with a two-run triple that sealed the series win for UAM.

Dawson Moser (3-0) earned his third win of the season after pitching 5.0 total innings of relief, only allowing one hit, and recorded seven strikeouts.

The Weevils will return to the field next on Tuesday, April 4, as UAM will travel to Jackson, Tennessee to take on Union University in a non-conference match-up with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
