RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team was defeated twice Friday evening by Arkansas Tech on the road by final scores of 2-1 (12 inn.) and 1-0 (8 inn.).
The opening series game between UAM (28-14, 21-9 GAC) and the Golden Suns of ATU (29-15, 23-9 GAC) saw the Blossoms gain an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning after a Maranda Clendenin single down the left field line.
Arkansas Tech tied up the ballgame in the seventh inning and the game would then venture into the twelfth inning when ATU was able to see one run cross the plate and take game one at 2-1.
Kendra Coleman started in the circle for Arkansas-Monticello throwing 11.1 total innings, and surrendered two earned runs and recorded 12 total strikeouts in the contest.
Game number two featured yet another pitcher's duel between the two programs as this match-up would also head into extra innings with Arkansas Tech claiming the victory in the bottom of the eighth inning in walk-off fashion.
The Blossoms generated only three hits in the second game from Kali Bolter (2-for-3), and Kaylee Freeman.
Freeman also began in the circle for UAM as she threw 7.0 total innings without allowing an earned run, and struckout two batters.
Arkansas-Monticello returns to the field tomorrow, Saturday, April 15, as UAM will face Arkansas Tech in the series conclusion with a doubleheader in Russellville, and a game one start time of 12 p.m.
