@UAMSOFTBALL DOWNED TWICE AGAINST EAST CENTRAL

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team was defeated twice Friday afternoon by Great American Conference foe East Central at home by final scores of 1-0, and 5-0.

Game number one for Arkansas-Monticello (32-20, 25-15 GAC) against the Tigers of ECU (30-23, 21-20 GAC) featured a pitcher's duel as only one run would eventually cross the plate for East Central in the visitors' 1-0 victory. A second inning RBI single through the left side of the field secured the ECU win over the Blossoms in the end.

The Blossoms totaled three hits in the contest as McKenzie Rice, Maranda Clendenin, and Ashton Currey each recorded one a piece. Rice also added a stolen base to her overall stat line in this game.

Kendra Coleman got the start in the circle as she threw 7.0 total innings, allowing just six hits and one earned run, while striking out three total batters.

The second match-up of the day once again saw the Tigers on the scoreboard first with a three run third inning to give the visiting squad the early advantage. ECU later capped off its scoring with two additional runs in the sixth and ultimately took the game at 5-0 over the Blossoms.

UAM did tally seven overall hits in the contest however with Rice going 2-for-3 with one double in the match-up. Jordan Herbner, Kaylee Freeman, Kali Bolter, Coleman, and Clendenin each totaled one hit a piece as well.

Kaylee Freeman started game number two as she pitched 7.0 total innings allowing two earned runs, and added three strikeouts also.

The Blossoms will return to the field next on Saturday, April 29, as UAM will host East Central in a series finale doubleheader at Blossoms Field with game one set for 12 p.m.

On Saturday as well, UAM will honor head coach Alvy Early, who became the state of Arkansas' all-time winningest collegiate coach on April 8 with his 1,162nd career victory. He has since added four victories to that total to give him a career count of 425 wins as UAM's women's basketball coach from 1979-2000 and 741 wins as UAM's softball coach, a position he has held since 1997.

The ceremony to honor Coach Early will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday prior to the final two games of the regular season. UAM Chancellor Dr. Karla Hughes will also be present to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to Saturday's games. All fans are invited to a cookout immediately following the double-header to celebrate Coach Early's record-breaking accomplishment. The cookout will be held at Blossoms Field. Fans are encouraged to tailgate.
