Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. -- The UAM volleyball sent its seniors out in style with a 3-1 win over visiting Southern Arkansas. The win is the fourth straight for the Blossoms and the third consecutive victory in the Great American Conference.
Â
UAM got off to a fast start in the first set jumping out to a 10-5 lead in the early going. Having seized control of the first set, the Blossoms never let the Muleriders back into the game. Southern Arkansas could draw no closer than four point for the remainder of the frame before falling to the Blossoms 25-18.
Â
The second stanza looked to be a repeat of the first. The Blossoms sprinted out to an early 12-6 lead and looked to be in complete control. Southern Arkansas had other ideas.
Â
The Muleriders kept chipping away at the UAM advantage clawing their way to cut the lead to 17-15 following a kill from Seven Powers. The Blossoms seemed to right the ship, though, and pushed the lead back to four points behind kills from MarKayla Dickie and Halli Lambert.
Â
Southern Arkansas would not go away, however. The Muleriders took advantage of some sloppy UAM play and eventually knotted the score at 21 on a service ace from Bailey Cagle. From there, the teams would battle back-and-forth – the score would be tied four more times – before the Blossoms finally put the set away at 28-26 with a huge kill from Dickie.
Â
The teams would battle tooth and nail in the third set. Neither team would lead by more than three points over the course of the set and the score was knotted 14 times before a winner could be decided.
Â
UAM battled back from a 20-17 deficit to tie the score at 20 on a kill from Leslie Polanco. UAM would eventually take a 24-22 lead and was on the cusp of a 3-game sweep, but the Muleriders reeled off four straight points to swipe a 26-24 win and extend the match to a fourth set.
Â
SAU pushed to an early lead in the fourth set, getting out to a 10-4 lead in the early going of the set. UAM would get back into the mix after putting together an 8-2 run to tie the score at 12.
Â
UAM would not take the lead, though, until a Polanco kill put the Blossoms up 18-17. The home team would work its way into a 22-19 advantage and looked to have finally taken control of the set.
Â
But, the Muleriders had yet another push left. The visitors rallied to tie the score at 24. That would be as close as they would come for the remainder of the set. Toryn Cox put the cherry on top of the match with a service ace to give the Blossoms the 27-25 win in the set and the 3-1 win in the match.
Â
UAM now stands at 6-22 on the year and 3-9 in GAC play. SAU drops to 8-17 overall and 2-10 in league play.
Â
Dickie led the Blossoms with 17 kills while Polanco added 15. Daniels' 39 assists led the team in that category. Powers led SAU with 18 kills.
Â
UAM will play again on Tuesday at Arkansas Tech.
