MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team defeated the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon, 87-82.

 

• UAM jumps to 14-9 (9-8 GAC) this season.
• SWOSU falls to 3-20 (1-16 GAC) on the year.
   

• Karim Mawuenyega —  29 points, 4 assists
• Troy Thomas— 16 points, 3 rebounds
• Derylton Hill — 14 points, 4 rebounds
• Tyrin Jones —  12 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds
  
   

• The Weevils opened this GAC match-up with a 7-0 run over the Bulldogs with layups from Cobe Goosby, and Jones, along with a three-pointer from Mawuenyega. 
• Arkansas-Monticello continued to control the pace of the first half, never trailing SWOSU and taking a 35-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. 
• UAM finished off the first half of play shooting 41 percent from the floor overall, and forcing 12 total Southwestern turnovers to aid in the double-digit lead. 
  
   

• UAM continued to play at a high level to begin the second half, jumping out to a 16 point lead over SWOSU at 47-31 after a fast-break alley oop dunk from Troy Thomas with Jones on the assist. 
• The Weevils were able to maintain a double-digit lead for the majority of the second period, until late in the half when the Bulldogs began to chip away at the home lead to come as close as four points down with just under a minute remaining. 
• Arkansas-Monticello was able to seal the contest off however with solid defense and five straight free throws from Mawuenyega for the 87-82 victory. 
   

• UAM will next take on the Reddies of Henderson State on Thursday, February 15 on the road in Arkadelphia, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
