BROADWAY RECORDS TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN OT LOSS TO SAU

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was defeated by rival Southern Arkansas Tuesday evening in overtime, by a final score of 91-85.

  • UAM falls to 7-18, (3-17 GAC) on the season.
  • SAU improves to 9-17, (8-12 GAC) overall.
     
  • Brittnee Broadway recorded her first career triple-double in the match-up with 16 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds.
  • Idalis Rubalcava posted her second career double-double this evening also with 12 points, and 12 rebounds.

  • This rivalry match-up featured a back-and-forth scoring battle early on in the opening quarter, until UAM was able to find some separation after a Collins three-pointer, and a Johnson and-one conversion for the 14-9 lead. 
  • SAU was able to bounce back and reclaim the lead by the period's end at 25-23 over the Blossoms, after a pair of made free throws. 
  • The second quarter brought more of the same high intensity play of each squad fighting for an advantage, however the Muleriders went into the break leading Arkansas-Monticello 42-38.

  • UAM finally regained the lead once again midway through the third quarter with another Collins made three, putting the score at 52-51 overall.
  • A steal by Rubalcava led to Idalis laying the ball in for the score on the fast-break to extend that Blossoms' lead on the very next possession as well, and UAM capped off the third period leading SAU 56-54.
  • The fourth quarter continued to see more lead changes as Southern Arkansas recaptured the lead midway through, but the Blossoms came fighting right back. 
  • Rubalcava had yet another fast-break layup after a steal, and Broadway knocked down a shot of her own to see the score tied up at 78-78.
  • Despite each team having a chance to seal the game off, the Muleriders and Blossoms would head to overtime to decide this GAC rivalry contest.

  • Both squads would be able to find leads during the overtime period, however costly turnovers by Arkansas-Monticello is what ultimately saw SAU pull out in front, and take this game at 91-85 by the final buzzer.

  • UAM will next take on the Bisons of Harding this Thursday, February 22 on the road in Searcy, Arkansas with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
