SHAWNEE, Okla. – University of Arkansas at Monticello women's golf opened its season Sept. 24-25 with an eighth-place finish at the Oklahoma Baptist University Fall Invitational.
The Blossoms shot a two-day total of 714 at the Shawnee Country Club – 17 strokes behind the Oklahoma Baptist B team and 19 strokes behind Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Belle Tan and Maija Tanburg each shot 168 for the tournament to tie at 21
st overall. Tan was consistent with an 84 in each round, while Tanburg improved from 86 on Monday to score an 82 Tuesday. Maddie Mattocks was third on the UAM roster with a 180 total (85, 95), followed by Skyla Mast, who shot 198 (101, 97). Anna Beth Gulledge was the Blossoms' fifth player (127, 112).
Marvelyn Kartika of Redlands Community College claimed medalist honors with a 7-over par finish to lead the 52-person field. She shot 77 and 74 in her two rounds for a 151 total. Rian Moores of Murray State Community College was the only golfer to play a round below par, finishing 1-below (71) on Day 1.
Oklahoma Baptist won its home tournament with a two-day total score of 628, beating Harding University by 25 strokes.
The UAM women's golf team is scheduled to continue its fall season Oct. 1-2 at the University of Central Oklahoma RCB Classic at The Golf Club of Edmond (Okla.).Â
