MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team lost in straight sets to Harding University Tuesday at Steelman Field House on the campus of UAM in Monticello, Arkansas. The Blossoms mounted a late rally in the third set, but were unable to stay alive, falling to the Lady Bisons, 3-0.
Harding controlled both the first and second sets winning the first, 25-19, and the second, 25-12.
In the third set, UAM and Harding were back-and-forth early, but the Lady Bisons scored seven straight points to go ahead, 18-10. HU then made it 23-14, and looked to close it out, but the Blossoms went on a big run.
UAM tallied seven straight points of its own, highlighted by big-time blocks from
Taylor Calhoun and
MarKayla Dickie, and kills by
Kyndall Eddlemon and Dickie to cut the deficit to two, 23-21.
However, the Lady Bisons got to set-point on a UAM attack error, and following a kill by Dickie, Harding finished the contest off on a kill from Logan Smith. The Lady Bisons took the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
With the loss, the Blossoms are 4-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while Harding improves to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in league games.
UAM is still searching for its first home win of the season.
Dickie led the team in kills with nine, while
Zealia Kleitz followed with five.
Halli Lambert and
Leslie Polanco tallied four kills apiece as well.
Katie Pearson was the team's main distributor totaling 21 assists.
On defense, Polanco and
Katelyn Richbourg managed 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
Dickie, Calhoun, Kleitz and Pearson combined for eight total blocks.

Arkansas at Monticello will remain at home and play a Great American Conference match against Arkansas Tech on Thursday at the Steelman Field House. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
