DURANT, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team won a low-scoring affair at Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Saturday in Durant, Oklahoma. The Weevils forced the SEOSU offense to cough up the ball five times and had a pair of key plays en route to the win.
UAM's lone touchdown came in the second quarter on a rushing play. Later, the Savage Storm scored a touchdown to tie the contest in the third quarter, but the Weevils recorded a very timely safety to take the 9-7 lead.
With time ticking away, UAM would force another key turnover late en route to the victory.
Following a scoreless first quarter,
Devontae Dean concluded an 8-play 61-yard drive when he ran the ball in for a 31-yard touchdown. It was his longest rushing TD of the season.
Josh Marini hit the extra point to put UAM ahead, 7-0.
Toward the end of the third quarter, it was still 7-0 UAM. However, SEOSU recorded a touchdown after 6-play 78-yard drive and scored on a rushing from Rashod Polk. They would hit the point after attempt to tie the game up, 7-7.
In the fourth, after a 6-play 13-yard drive, Marini pinned the Savage Storm deep in their own territory on a 51-yard punt. On the first play of the drive,
C.J. Everett got to quarterback Daulton Hatley for a 10-yard sack and a safety, putting UAM ahead, 9-7.
SEOSU got the ball back with 4:58 left to go in the contest. With the Savage Storm driving, they fumbled the snap allowing
Stephen King to hop on the ball. UAM recovered with 2:16 on the clock.
The Weevils would then tally a big first down, and take a pair of knees for the victory.
With the win, the Weevils improve to 4-2 and earned their first road victory of the campaign.
