MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team fell in straight sets to Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday from the Steelman Field House in Monticello, Arkansas. The Lady Bison needed a pair of extra points to defeat the Blossoms in the first two sets, but went on a big run in the third set to seal the win.
UAM had leads in the first two sets, but the Lady Bison mounted comebacks in both, getting set wins.
At one point in set one, the Blossoms had a 19-14 lead emphasized by stellar play from
Katie Pearson and
Leslie Polanco. However, OBU chipped away, eventually putting the score at 23-21 in favor of them. Both teams would tie it up at 25 points apiece, but the Lady Bison got consecutive kills to close out set one, 27-25.
Set two was a similar story with UAM going ahead very early leading, 8-0. OBU clawed back into eventually taking a one point lead, 17-16. The Blossoms then went on a five-point run highlighted by a kill from
Taylor Calhoun. OBU then fought back to take a lead, and both teams would tie it up again at 25 all. However, OBU got a kill to take the one-point lead, and UAM lost set two on an attack error.
In the final set, the Lady Bison were in control from the start, coming away with a win, 25-9, getting the match victory, 3-0.
MarKayla Dickie had 10 kills on the day leading the team, while Polanco was behind her with nine.
Pearson assisted on 27 of UAM's 33 total kills. She also had a service ace on the day.
Jessica Mahan, Polanco and Pearson had double-digit dig numbers with, 12, 11, and 10, respectively, and both Dickie and
Zealia Kleitz registered three assisted blocks apiece on defense.
UAM falls to 5-15 overall and 2-7 in Great American Conference play.
