UAM geared up for first road game at Mississippi College on Tuesday

The UAM women’s basketball team will travel to Clinton, Mississippi to play Mississippi College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in its first road game of the 2019-20 season. The Blossoms are coming off a pair of home wins over the weekend and are looking to go 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 2008-09.

SCOUTING THE BLOSSOMS
UAM is coming off a pair of victories in the Central Region Challenge to begin its 2019-20 season. The Blossoms hosted Upper Iowa and Lincoln and earned wins, 51-41, and 68-37, respectively.

UAM's last 2-0 start to a season was back in 2013-14. That year, the Blossoms went on to finish 8-18 on the year and their longest win streak was actually two.
 
A win on Tuesday would mark the first time the Blossoms have started a season 3-0 since 2008-09. That year, UAM was 21-9 and was an NCAA South Region Semi-Finalist.
 
The story of UAM's first games were their active hands. In the two games, the Blossoms forced an impressive 48 turnovers and combined for 31 steals.
 
Two players are averaging at least 10 points to start the season in Berniezha Tidwell and Mackenzie Tillman. Tidwell is averaging 15.0 points in two games and is shooting .480 percent from the field, while Tillman is averaging 11.5 points per game shooting .615 percent.
 
In the rebounding category, Mekaylan Hicks and Brandashia Hargraves have double digit numbers with Hicks totaling 18 (9.0 rpg) and Hargraves adding 11 (5.5 rpg).

Kayla Bradley has been dishing the ball well in two games leading the team in assists with 10.
 
On defense, Tidwell and Bradley have totaled 10 steals apiece, while Hicks and Kyiah Julian have one block apiece.

SCOUTING THE CHOCTAWS
The Choctaws have played one game to start the season, earning an 88-69 victory against Belhaven last Friday.
 
MC had four players tally at least 10 points in the contest in Moriah Hurst (18), Zariah Matthews (18), Coco Hobson (18) and Mikeba Jones (16).
 
Both Hobson and Hurst had double-doubles in the contest with Hobson tallying 18 rebounds and Hurst recording 12.
 
The Choctaws forced Belhaven to commit 21 turnovers in that game totaling nine steals.
 
UP NEXT
The Blossoms will return home for a non-conference game against Hendrix College at the Steelman Field House on Thursday at 7 p.m.
