SCOUTING THE WEEVILS
The UAM men's basketball team will host Jarvis Christian College today at the Steelman Field House in Monticello, Arkansas. The Weevils enter this contest with a 5-1 overall record and a 2-0 league mark. The Bulldogs come into today with an 0-6 record in NAIA Division I play.
 
UAM is riding a five-game winning streak after losing the first game of the season. Last time out, the Weevils played Central Baptist College at home on Tuesday and defeated the Mustangs, 87-68. The Bulldogs are coming off a loss to Central Baptist in overtime, 95-91.
 
The Weevils are still one of the best teams in the country in a handful of categories. UAM holds onto the ball exceptionally well ranking 11th in NCAA Division II in turnovers per game averaging 10.0. UAM is also 23rd in turnover margin at +5.3, 28th in steals per game with 9.3, and 40th in both total assists (105) and total steals (56).
 
KJ Lesure, Marcus Gilbert, Justin Slocum and Denzel McDuffey are four of the Weevils starting five and they are all averaging at least 10.0 points per game. Lesure leads the way at 18.0 points per game, Gilbert trails behind at 17.2, Slocum is third at 11.3 and McDuffey has averaged 11.0.
 
Lesure has been one of the top guards in Division II ranking 23rd in nation in total assists with 37. He also leads the team in steals with 15 and is shooting 90.0 percent at the free throw line.
 
Gilbert has been one of UAM's other top performers ranking second on the roster in rebounds per game at 5.7, assists per game (4.0) and is shooting 76.6 percent at the charity stripe.
 
McDuffey is coming of his best game in a UAM uniform with a double-double scoring 20 points and totaling 13 boards. He and Slocum have been outstanding defensively being tied for the team-lead in blocks with six apiece. McDuffey also leads the roster in rebounds per game at 7.3.
 
As a team, UAM is shooting 50.3 percent from the floor, 37.3 percent from downtown and 72.3 percent at the free throw line. The Weevlis have averaged 86.5 points per contest and have surrendered and average of 73.3 points per game.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Wyatt McShane has been Jarvis Christian's top performer this year leading the team in points per game at 21.33 shooting 47.7 percent from the floor and 41.1 percent from three-point range.
 
Kobe Wrice and Phillip Thompson are second and third on the roster in points per contest with Wrice averaging 19.0 points per game and Thompson posting 14.2 points per game. Wrice is also the team's top rebounder averaging 8.5 boards per game.
 
Defensively, the Bulldogs surrender 80.5 points per contest have 13 blocks and 52 steals thus far this year.
