UAM Volleyball primed for Southeastern Oklahoma Tournament

The Arkansas-Monticello Volleyball team will play four matches this weekend at the Southeastern Oklahoma Tournament in Durant, Oklahoma beginning Friday. UAM will play Union (Tenn.) and Cameron Friday, and matchup with Colorado State-Pueblo and Central Oklahoma Saturday.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Volleyball team will play four matches this weekend at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Tournament in Durant, Oklahoma beginning Friday. UAM will play Union University (Tennessee) and Cameron University Friday, and matchup with Colorado State University at Pueblo and the University of Central Oklahoma Saturday.
 
On Friday, Arkansas-Monticello will play at 9 a.m. against Union, and then follow that match with a 3 p.m. contest against Cameron.
 
UAM will then close out its weekend with an 11 a.m. contest against CSU-Pueblo and a 3 p.m. match against UCA.

UAM NOTES
  • The Arkansas-Monticello volleyball program opened its 2019 campaign with a win over Auburn-Montgomery last week, but lost the next three matches to conclude the weekend, and now has a record of 1-3.
  •  All four of the matches last week were battles; with each going at least four sets. The contests against Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri-S&T were both five sets.
  • Head Coach Jocelyn Garcia picked up her first career win as a full-time head coach defeating AUM last week.
  • Offensively, Leslie Polanco and MarKayla Dickie led UAM. Polanco totaled 66.0 points, while Dickie rallied for 57.5. The pair combined for 110 of the team's 171 total kills last weekend.
  • Dickie currently leads the team in kills per set with 4.90, while Polanco follows behind at 3.39.
  • Aiding the attack was Katie Pearson, who recorded 148 assists to start the season. She also had four kills of her own and posted four service aces.
  • Jessica Mahan led the team in service aces with seven.
  • Defensively, Mahan led the team in digs with 80, while Polanco totaled 74 and Pearson managed 42.
  • Taylor Calhoun aided at the top of the net with 13.0 total blocks and she leads the team in blocks per set with 1.63.
  • Dickie also helped in the blocking category totaling 14.0 of her own and averaging 1.40 per set. Along with her, Zealia Kleitz had 9.0 blocks and averaged 1.13 per set.

  • Meghan Delaney is the team's top attacker leading in total kills (47) and kills per set (5.22).
  • Union also receives contributions on the attack from Kristen Bukowsky (17 kills), Alyssa Tatsch (11 kills), Emily Grace Calhoon (11 kills) and Jordan Vick (11 kills).
  • Vick currently leads Union in assists with 82.
  • Abbie Rahn and Delaney are two of the team's key defenders with Rahn registering 32 digs and Delaney tallying 30.
  • Bukowsky has been tough at the top of the net recording 9.0 blocks.

  • Walia Franklin and Arianna Navarrete have aided almost equally on the attack. Franklin has managed 33 kills while Navarrete has totaled 30.
  • Katherine Manning has handled most of the distribution duties leading the team in assists with 89.
  • Defensively, Peyton Little leads the team in digs with 55 and digs per set at 4.23.
  • Riana Blount has added 12 digs, but leads all blockers at the net with 11.0 total blocks.

  • Sarah Vang and Brooke Schilling have handled most of the attacking for CSU-Pueblo. Vang has totaled 37 assists while Schilling has registered 33.
  • Grace Hern has been dishing out assists averaging 5.20 per set total 78.
  • Kyle Meltzer has recorded 3.80 digs per set to lead the roster and has totaled 57.
  • Jazzy Espinoza and Diamond'Nique Young are both tied for the team-lead in blocks with 11.0 apiece. Young does have the edge in blocks per set at 0.92 while Espinoza sits a 0.73.

Notes
  • UCO has three attackers that have shared the load in Bailey Combs, Lauren Jenkins and Amanda Desch. Combs leads the team with 48 kills, while Jenkins and Desch have tallied 41 apiece.
  • Desch has also been the team's top distributor totaling 130 assists, which is good for a 7.22 assist per set average.
  • Lipari has totaled 103 digs and Desch follows with 60.
  • Malia Kaaiohelo is the team's top defender at the net with 13.0 blocks and 0.72 blocks per set.
 
UP NEXT
UAM will head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas for the HSU Tri-Match Tournament at Henderson State University. Arkansas-Monticello will play two matches on September 18 including its first Great American Conference contest starting at 2 p.m. against HSU.
