UAM Football shut out at #22 Harding, 24-0

The UAM Football team fell to No. 22 Harding, 24-0, in Searcy, Arkansas Saturday. The Arkansas-Monticello offense struggled to get much going all day as it was held to just 158 total yards.

SEARCY, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Football team fell to 22nd ranked Harding University, 24-0, in Searcy, Arkansas, Saturday. The UAM offense struggled to get much going all day as it was held to just 158 total yards.
 
Caleb Canady found himself searching for answers all day as he was just 20-for-37 for 117 yards and had two interceptions.
 
Logan Penn was the team's top rusher with five carries for 35 yards on the ground.
 
DeAndre Washington led UAM receivers with seven receptions for 42 yards.
 
Defensively, Christian Jefferson and Deontae Haynes were tied for the team-lead in tackles with nine. Kelvin Brown had a solid day as well recording five tackles and forcing a fumble.
 
In the first half, UAM struggled to get anything going offensively, totaling just 97 yards.
 
After going three-and-out in the first drive, Harding answered with a touchdown.
 
On the ninth play of the 42-yard following drive, Canady fired a ball and it was picked off for a 75-yard pick-six. HU hit the extra point and went up, 14-0.
 
Harding kept UAM's offense off the field for most of the second quarter rushing the ball 16 times for 81 yards and eating up 9:44 seconds of clock. The Bisons' run game also helped push across 10 points and HU took the lead into the break, 24-0.
 
At the start of the second half, Harding started with the ball and UAM held them as they went for it on fourth down in Arkansas-Monticello territory on its first drive. However, UAM's following drive amounted to just seven plays and 40 yards as the Boll Weevils punted.
 
That was the same story for both teams as they combined for just four drives in the third quarter, but were scoreless as we headed to the fourth with UAM still trailing, 24-0.
 
The fourth turned out to be more of the same with neither team scoring. UAM and Harding combined for six drives, but neither scored and HU held on for the win, 24-0.
 
With the loss, Arkansas-Monticello falls to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in Great American Conference play. Harding improves to 1-1 and 1-1 in GAC Games.

The Boll Weevils will be back in action next week at home as it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State at Cotton Boll Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
