UAM looking for bounce back win against Southern Nazarene

The UAM men’s basketball team will host Southern Nazarene on Thursday in a GAC contest in hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak. The Weevils will play at 7:30 p.m. following the women’s game.

SCOUTING THE WEEVILS
The Weevils return to action on the heels of a four-game skid having not won since January 4th against Northwestern Oklahoma State University. SNU has won four in-a-row with its last loss coming on January 4th at Henderson State.
 
Last time out, UAM fell at home to Ouachita Baptist University, 75-68, while the Crimson Storm won their last matchup against East Central University, 88-63. Both games were played last Saturday.
 
UAM is still 19th in NCAA Division II in scoring offense averaging 88.1 points per game while holding opponents to 77.5 points per game. The Weevils shoot 48.3 percent from the field and have only had one game where they shot under 40.0 percent.
 
The Weevils have also been one of the better rebounding teams in the country. UAM is fourth in the country in total rebounds (783), 15th in rebounds per game (41.2) and 18th in offensive rebounds per game (13.6).
 
UAM still has its balance in its scoring attack this year with six players still averaging at least 10.0 points per game. KJ Lesure leads the way averaging 18.1 points per game while Justin Slocum (15.3), Marcus Gilbert (13.9), Austin Hardy (11.9), Wanya King (10.4) and Denzel McDuffey (10.3) round out the key six.
 
Lesure is also one of the country's top distributors ranking 16th NCAA Division II averaging 6.4 per game. He also has been notable at the free-throw line for the Weevils shooting 85.0 percent.
 
Second to Lesure in scoring is Gilbert and he does that shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 40.9. percent from downtown. He is also third in the country in total minutes played with 710.
 
Hardy continues to shoot the ball lights out shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from downtown.
 
Slocum and McDuffey have not only helped in scoring, but also on the glass as the team's top rebounders. McDuffey is leading the roster in rebounds per game at 8.0 and Slocum is second to him averaging 6.9.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON STORM
Southern Nazarene has been one of the more dangerous offensive teams in the conference similar to UAM. The Crimson Storm have gotten a lot of that done via the three-pointer ranking seventh in the country in total three-pointers made (208), 12th in three-point field goals per game (11.6) and 18th in three-point field goal percentage (40.5).
 
A lot of their scoring is centered around one of the top offensive players in the country In Jhonathan Dunn. He is first in NCAA Division II in total points with 514, second in field goals made (183) and second in points per game (28.6).
 
Along with Dunn, Micah Speight has also been one of the top players around this season. He averages 19.1 points per game while also leading the team in assists per game (5.5).
 
Both Dunn and Speight have combined for 139 of the Crimson Storm's 208 total field goals made this season.
