UAM softball ready for Alvy Early Memorial Classic

The UAM softball team will get ready for the Alvy Early Memorial Classic this Saturday and Sunday from Bentonville, Arkansas. The Blossoms will play four games over the weekend with two on Saturday, starting with Central Missouri and ending against Missouri Southern State, and then two on Sunday with matchups against Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri Western State.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team will get ready for the Alvy Early Memorial Classic this Saturday and Sunday from Bentonville, Arkansas. The Blossoms will play four games over the weekend with two on Saturday, starting with Central Missouri University and ending against Missouri Southern State University, along with two on Sunday in matchups against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri Western State University.
 
On Saturday, UAM is scheduled to play Central Missouri at 10 a.m. and follow that game up with a matchup against Missouri Southern State at 12 p.m. UAM will then play Missouri-St. Louis at 12 p.m. on Sunday, and Missouri Western State at 4 p.m.
 
Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts this weekend with other UAM events, there will be no live coverage available for the games in Bentonville. However, box scores and recaps will be posted to uamsports.com when the information becomes available.

BLOSSOMS NOTES
UAM comes into this one on the heels of losing three straight. The Blossoms had leads in three of their losses in Commerce, Texas last week, but were unable to hold on to them. 
 
After the first weekend, UAM is batting .235 (22-for-119) with three home runs and 18 RBI. In the circle, the Blossoms carry a 7.76 ERA (34 ER in 30.2 IP).
 
Four of UAM's batters are currently hitting over .300 in Caroline Tedder (.385), Hannah Holdbrook (.364), Katelynn Stamper (.333) and Kara DeBruin (.300).
 
Tedder currently leads the team in RBI with four with one home run. She also has a .615 slugging percentage.
 
DeBruin also tallied a homer over the weekend and has three RBI while leading the roster in in slugging percentage at .700.
 
In the circle, UAM really had a rough go of it last weekend. The Blossoms top hurler was Hayley McGhee who was 0-1 in three appearances with a 4.20 ERA (4 ER in 6.2 IP).

JENNIES NOTES
UCM is coming off a 34-win season, which is the most since 2015 and were tied for their 10th-most in school history.
 
The Jennies were picked to finish third their conference after their performance last season.
 
Central Missouri has a trio of key players coming back this season in Lauryn Deer, Jessica Sader and Gentry Wishard.

LIONS NOTES
The Lions went 1-3 to open their 2020 campaign in the Edmond Regional Festival. In their lone win, they defeated East Central in a 14-0 run-rule game.  They then fell to Cameron, Oklahoma Christian and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
 
Their top performer in their opening weekend was Abby Atkin who appeared in three of the Lion's four games in the circle. She was 1-0 hurling 10 innings and earning a 0.90 ERA allowing just eight hits, no walks and four strikeouts.
 
At the plate, they were led by Haleigh Scott who hit .600 (6-for-10) with three doubles and five RBI.
 
MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS PRIMER

TRITONS NOTES
The Tritons started the season off with a losses against No. 21 Tarleton, Christian Brothers and Mississippi College, before earning a win over conference foe Ouachita to conclude their opening weekend.
 
Missouri-St. Louis was led by Annie Scaramuzzi over the weekend who hit .750 (6-for-8) with a double and an RBI.
 
In the circle, Mimi Bradley got a win in two appearances hurling 7.2 innings and allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out a pair.
 
MISSOURI WESTERN

GRIFFONS NOTES
The Griffons finished second in their conference a year ago with their 21 MIAA wins and made a trip to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.
 
They return 11 athletes from the team a season ago including All-MIAA player Brea Blanton. Blanton hit .377 (58-for-154) last season with six home runs and 38 RBI.
 
In the circle, the Griffons bring back their top hurler in Kaili Hinds who went 16-5 in 2019 with a 3.25 ERA (64 ER in 137. IP) while punching out 94 batters.
 
UP NEXT
The Blossoms will begin their conference schedule on February 21st with a pair of Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders against Ouachita Baptist University. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1 pm.
