Blossoms drop a pair at Delta State

The UAM softball team dropped a pair of non-conference mid-week contests at Delta State on Tuesday from Cleveland, Mississippi. After falling in a tight game one contest, 3-1, the Blossoms were defeated in five innings in game two, 9-0.

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team dropped a pair of non-conference mid-week contests at Delta State on Tuesday from Cleveland, Mississippi. After falling in a tight game one contest, 3-1, the Blossoms were defeated in five innings in game two, 9-0.
 
With the losses, UAM drops to 11-12 overall and has concluded non-conference games for the remainder of the regular season.
 
GAME ONE: UAM 1 – DSU 3
The first contest got off to a slow start with neither team hitting for three full innings.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Statesmen changed that with a three-run rally giving them a lead as we entered the late innings.
 
The Blossoms did answer in the fifth on an RBI single from Haley Cornell to score Haley Godeaux making it 3-1.
 
However, UAM was retired in order in the sixth and seventh and were unable to make a comeback falling, 3-1.
 
Kaylee Freeman (L, 2-2) did a solid job in the circle, but took allowing the three runs (two earned) over 6.0 innings.
 
Olivia Burns (W, 3-10) got the win for DSU tossing the complete game allowing just one run on four hits striking out 11 UAM hitters.
 
GAME TWO: UAM 0 – DSU 9 (5 inn.)
Game two was a different story as Delta State took over right from the start and UAM only mustered one hit falling in five innings.
 
All of the Lady Statesmen runs were scored early. After tallying five runs in the bottom of the first, they added four more in the bottom of the second. All their runs were scored on just five hits and two UAM errors.
 
The Blossoms lone hit was from Cornell. She broke up DSU's no-hitter with a leadoff single in the top of the fifth.
 
Raegyn Parrish (L, 1-3) took the loss allowing nine runs (seven earned) on five hits and five walks while striking out two.
 
Burns (W, 4-10) got the win allowing one hit and one walk striking out six.
 
UP NEXT
The Blossoms will get back to conference play this weekend when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State University from Alvy Early Softball Field in Monticello on Friday and Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
