CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team suffered its fourth-straight loss on the road at Delta State University on Wednesday from Cleveland, Mississippi, 10-5.
The Weevils had the lead in the fifth, but Statesmen put together a four-run sixth to take a lead and never looked back.
UAM did fall behind in the first, but got the run back in the top of the third and some more.
Cade Thompson singled through the right side to drive in
Audy Clary. Later,
Hudson Hopkins grounded out and scored
Austin Powell. To finish scoring in the third, Thompson scored on a wild pitch to give the Weevils a 3-1 advantage.
After a pair of runs from Delta State in the bottom of the fourth tied it up 3-3, Hopkins homered to give the Weevils a 4-3 lead.
However, in the sixth, Delta State got back out in front with a four-run inning to make it 7-4. They added a run in the seventh as well.
UAM did respond with a run in the eighth on a Powell RBI single, but the Statesmen added a couple more and went on to win, 10-5.
Delta State's Hunter Riggins (W, 4-2) got the win going 1.0 inning allowing just a walk and striking out one batter.
Matthew Harrison (L, 0-1) took the loss going 1.1 innings allowing four runs (one earned) on two walks while striking out a pair.
With the loss, the Weevils drop to 8-13 overall and Delta State improves to 13-10.
